Multiple US Legislatures Pass Resolutions Honoring Charlie Kirk After Political Assassination
A resolution to honor conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was rejected by the St. Louis County Council after condemnation by the local NAACP, which criticized Kirk's record as divisive and harmful to civil rights. In contrast, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution designating October 14, Kirk's birthday, as the National Day of Remembrance to honor his legacy and influence in conservative politics. Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott and Pennsylvania Senator Doug Mastriano have also introduced resolutions to commemorate Kirk's life and condemn the political violence that led to his assassination. Additionally, Sen. Mike Lee from Utah successfully passed a Senate resolution condemning Kirk's killing and honoring his commitment to civil discourse, with a companion House resolution pending. Kirk was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University, with the suspect arrested and charged with aggravated murder. High-profile conservatives including President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance are expected to attend Kirk's memorial service, highlighting the wide impact of his death across political circles.
