Florida Cabinet Nears Approval for Miami Trump Presidential Library
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has proposed allocating a 2.63-acre parcel of land at Miami-Dade College's Wolfson Campus, adjacent to the historic Freedom Tower in downtown Miami, for the construction of the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library. The proposal, which will be considered by the Florida Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund, has strong support from Florida Cabinet members, including Attorney General James Uthmeier, who praised Trump's accomplishments and the library's potential to tell his story. This site selection aligns with recent state legislation granting Florida government regulatory authority over presidential libraries to streamline development. The Freedom Tower's cultural significance as a refuge for Cuban immigrants enhances the library's symbolic importance, and the project is expected to spur economic development in South Florida. Miami Dade College’s Board of Trustees has already approved the property transfer to the state, moving the project closer to realization. If approved, Florida would become the 11th state to host one of the nation's 14 presidential libraries, with this being the first in the state.
