Rep. Andy Ogles successfully defended his seat in Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District against a primary challenge from Metro Council member Courtney Johnston, winning 55% to 44%. Despite significant support and funding from anti-Ogles PACs, Johnston's campaign focused on criticizing Ogles for his alleged lack of effectiveness and professionalism, but ultimately fell short. Ogles, who had the backing of former President Trump and substantial support from conservative political action committees, will now face Democrat Maryam Abolfazli in the November general election. Abolfazli, a nonprofit founder advocating for stricter gun laws and improved education funding, ran unopposed in her primary. The district, recently redrawn to favor Republicans, is expected to remain solidly in GOP hands. Ogles has faced scrutiny over campaign finance issues and controversies since taking office in 2022, yet maintained strong grassroots support to secure his victory.
