Majority in 24 Countries Have No Confidence in Trump’s Leadership
A Pew Research Center survey across 24 countries found that a majority of adults have little to no confidence in President Donald Trump's leadership on critical global issues including economics, immigration, U.S.-China relations, and the Russia-Ukraine war. Over half of respondents in key U.S. allies such as France, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Japan expressed no confidence in Trump's global leadership, with many also describing him as "arrogant" and "dangerous." Less than 20% of respondents in countries like Canada, France, and Germany trust Trump's handling of climate change, and fewer than a third in countries such as the Netherlands, Italy, and Japan have confidence in his ability to manage global economic challenges. Despite this, 67% of those polled still view Trump as a "strong leader," a perception attributed to his popularity in countries like India and Nigeria. White House spokesman Steven Cheung defended Trump by emphasizing his priority to serve the American people and the support for his "America First" agenda, while Pew's Richard Wike noted that many globally prefer an engaged U.S. working collaboratively on major international challenges, a stance they see Trump as neglecting. The survey also highlighted a significant decline in global favorability ratings for the U.S. in 15 countries since the previous year.
