House GOP Eyes Obama, Maxwell Subpoenas
House Speaker Mike Johnson has indicated that Congress may subpoena former President Barack Obama to testify about alleged collusion with intelligence agencies during the 2016 Trump-Russia investigation, following National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard's claims of a 'treasonous conspiracy' to undermine Donald Trump’s election victory. Johnson also suggested that former Obama administration officials, including Eric Holder and John Brennan, could be called to testify. Separately, House Republicans are advancing a motion to subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s convicted associate, to address transparency concerns about sealed files in the Epstein case. Rep. Tim Burchett has expressed distrust over the handling of the Epstein files and alleged possible tampering or cover-up by the Biden administration. Discussions between Maxwell's attorney and the Justice Department are reportedly underway. Both efforts highlight escalating partisan tensions in Congressional oversight, with Republicans seeking testimony from high-profile political and criminal figures.
