Nordic Nations Boost Civil Defense Amid Rising Tensions

Sweden and Finland are distributing updated booklets to their citizens with instructions on how to prepare for war, amidst escalating tensions due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Sweden's handbook, titled 'In Case of Crisis or War', offers advice on identifying threats, seeking shelter, and ensuring digital and psychological security, and has been expanded to 32 pages. Finland has also launched a new crisis preparedness website. The Nordic countries, historically neutral, joined NATO recently following security concerns. These publications come as NATO countries brace for potential conflict, especially after the U.S. authorized Ukraine to use long-range American weapons against Russia. These initiatives reflect a broader effort by Nordic governments to strengthen civil defense and resilience against rising threats, including nuclear warfare.
