Bipartisan Pledge Signed to Uphold 2024 Election

A bipartisan group of over 30 U.S. House members, including six Republicans, has signed a pledge to respect the results of the 2024 presidential election. The initiative, led by Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) and Don Bacon (R-Neb.), aims to ensure lawmakers safeguard the fairness and integrity of the electoral process, acknowledge the certified winner, and promote calm and reconciliation. The Republican signatories include Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Mike Lawler (N.Y.), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (Ore.), Nick LaLota (N.Y.), and Anthony D’Esposito (N.Y.). These members have committed to attending the presidential inauguration and speaking out against violence. This effort comes amidst concerns about potential election challenges and violence, reminiscent of the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. Former President Trump continues to claim the 2020 election was stolen, raising fears of similar actions if he loses again in 2024.
