Fetterman Won't Switch, Embraces Independent Stance

Sen. John Fetterman told Fox News he will not switch to the Republican Party and will remain a Democrat while acting as an “independent voice,” saying he will refrain from using extreme labels and urging a lowering of the political temperature. He said he opposes using a government shutdown as a bargaining tactic and did not explicitly commit to backing a GOP-sponsored continuing resolution. Fetterman has broken with parts of the Democratic left by steadfastly supporting Israel during its Gaza campaign, meeting with Israeli leaders, and voting to confirm several of President Trump’s nominees. He defended his national security and foreign-policy positions during the interview. He pointed to research showing 2025 was the first year in decades in which left-wing attacks outnumbered far-right attacks, and recent polling shows rising Republican sympathy for him in Pennsylvania.
