As part of this effort, Harris will visit Detroit for Labor Day events alongside Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Duggan, who is also being considered as a potential candidate for Michigan governor, emphasizes the significance of mobilizing voters, especially in a key battleground state where Trump previously won by a narrow margin in 2016 but lost in 2020. Detroit is a crucial Democratic stronghold, with expected voter turnout exceeding 50% in the general election. Duggan endorsed Harris after Biden exited the race, and a recent rally in the area attracted 15,000 attendees. City Clerk Janice Winfrey indicated that over 55% of registered voters in Detroit are likely to participate in the November election.
