US Implements New Chip Export Restrictions to China

The Biden administration has implemented new restrictions on the export of advanced semiconductor technology to China, aiming to limit the country's military and AI capabilities. Over 140 Chinese companies have been added to a restricted trade list, which prohibits U.S. firms from supplying them without government permission. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo stated these rules are the strongest actions taken to degrade China's chip manufacturing abilities. The measures include a ban on specific advanced chips and machinery critical for AI and supercomputing, reflecting ongoing national security concerns about China's technological advancements. This initiative is perceived as a significant step before Donald Trump assumes the presidency, where a tougher stance on China is anticipated. In response, Beijing condemned the U.S. for what it described as the abuse of export control measures, asserting it hampers normal economic exchanges.
