TotalEnergies has announced a pause on its Attentive Energy offshore wind farm project planned for New York and New Jersey, citing anticipated opposition from the incoming Trump administration, which has pledged to halt offshore wind development. CEO Patrick Pouyanne indicated that the project, capable of powering over 3 million homes and initially projected for completion in the 2030s, will be reassessed in four years. The decision highlights concerns within the renewable energy sector about future investments under a Trump presidency, which may seek to reverse policies that support offshore wind initiatives. Despite having secured leasing rights, the project remains in early permitting stages with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.
