Biden Announces $8B Military Aid During Zelensky Visit

During a visit from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President Joe Biden announced over $8 billion in military aid to support Ukraine against Russian forces. This package includes $5.5 billion in immediate aid and $2.4 billion under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which will provide advanced munitions, air defenses, and training for Ukrainian F-16 pilots. The aid features the first shipment of the Joint Standoff Weapon, a precision-guided glide bomb with a range of up to 81 miles. Biden emphasized that this support aims to help Ukraine 'win this war' but stopped short of allowing Ukraine to use U.S. missiles to strike deep into Russian territory. Meanwhile, other NATO allies like Denmark have urged for fewer restrictions on Ukraine's use of donated weapons, arguing that red lines only benefit Russia. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, however, maintains restrictions to prevent escalation into a wider conflict.
