House Oversight Seeks Epstein Financial Reports, Subpoenas Officials

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is intensifying the committee's investigation into the federal government's handling of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell's cases, focusing on possible mismanagement and the circumstances surrounding Epstein's death. Comer has formally requested that the Treasury Department produce Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) related to Epstein and Maxwell by mid-September to aid oversight of sex trafficking enforcement and prosecution efforts. The committee has also subpoenaed high-profile former government officials, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and former Attorney Generals, while the Department of Justice has begun releasing Epstein-related records as part of the investigation. Comer established a Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets to facilitate transparency, which has actively sought additional documents from the DOJ. The investigation has received support from survivors of Epstein and Maxwell's crimes, who back the push for transparency and accountability. Some planned testimonies, such as that of former FBI Director Robert Mueller, have been withdrawn due to health issues, but the committee continues its aggressive pursuit of documents and testimony to achieve justice and legislative reforms.
