President Biden announced a substantial $7.3 billion investment in rural electrification during a visit to Wisconsin, aimed at transitioning rural areas to clean energy through the Empowering Rural America (New ERA) program. This initiative, which is the largest since the 1936 Rural Electrification Act, will provide funding to 16 electric cooperatives covering 23 states, benefiting around 5 million households and creating thousands of jobs. The funding is part of the Biden-Harris Administration's Investing in America agenda, leveraging an additional $29 billion in private investments to generate over 10 gigawatts of clean energy, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Alongside this, the Department of Energy also announced $66 million in awards for energy efficiency projects across 17 states and territories, aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and reducing costs for homeowners and businesses.
