Thanedar Files Trump Impeachment, Faces Primary Challenges

U.S. Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) has filed seven articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, alleging constitutional violations including obstruction of justice, abuse of executive power, unlawful deportations, violation of First Amendment rights, creation of an unlawful office, bribery, and corruption. Thanedar specifically cited Trump's refusal to obey a Supreme Court order in the deportation case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia and criticized the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency, which allegedly gave Elon Musk unconstitutional powers. The impeachment effort comes as Thanedar faces two primary challengers, with criticism from both the political left and over his position on Israel. Thanedar maintains the action is about defending democracy rather than partisanship. However, the Republican-controlled Congress makes the effort unlikely to succeed.
