Multiple FTAs Expected to Boost Asia-EU Trade by 2026

Several significant free trade agreements (FTAs) are progressing globally, poised to reshape international trade landscapes by 2026. Bhutan and Thailand are set to implement their FTA by January 2026, providing Bhutanese exports duty-free access to the Thai market and easing trade procedures, including tariff eliminations and specific quotas for sensitive agricultural products. Mexico is advancing the modernization of its trade agreement with the European Union, aiming to finalize and sign the updated pact in early 2026, which will eliminate tariffs and non-tariff barriers while protecting geographical indications like Parmesan cheese and Champagne. India and the UK are nearing the finalization of their comprehensive FTA, with signing expected by September, followed by ratification processes that could take up to 15 months before becoming operational; this agreement also emphasizes collaboration in technology, manufacturing, and innovation sectors. Thailand is accelerating negotiations to conclude FTAs with the EU and South Korea by the end of this year, aiming to open new markets in response to recent US tariffs, while also progressing on an ASEAN-Canada deal expected to conclude in 2026, all aiming to foster trade expansion and economic cooperation.
