Stellantis Cancels All-Electric Ram 1500 Pickup Amid Dimming Demand
Stellantis has canceled development of its fully electric Ram 1500 pickup truck due to declining demand for full-size battery electric vehicles in North America and shifts in federal policies under President Donald Trump's administration that have rolled back EV incentives. The electric Ram 1500 REV, initially slated for a 2024 launch and repeatedly delayed until 2027, will no longer be produced. Instead, Ram will focus on the range-extended electric variant, formerly called the Ramcharger, renamed the Ram 1500 REV, which combines an electric drivetrain with a gas engine to extend range and is expected to arrive in 2026. This move is part of a broader Stellantis strategy under new CEO Antonio Filosa to prioritize profitability and respond to market realities, including strong customer demand for traditional V8 engines which Ram is also bringing back. The range-extended Ram 1500 REV promises strong performance with high towing capacity and acceleration comparable to previous Ram models. Overall, the cancellation reflects challenges in electrifying large trucks and the impact of reduced federal support for EV adoption.
