Biden Signs Executive Order Supporting Distressed Communities

This initiative is designed to prioritize federal resources for approximately 50 million Americans living in areas characterized by high poverty and unemployment rates. The order builds upon significant investments made during Biden's administration, including $54 billion for energy communities and $525 million for job training programs. It emphasizes a 'whole-of-government' approach to streamline access to federal support for these communities, addressing their needs due to industrial transitions and natural disasters. White House economic adviser Lael Brainard noted that the order reflects Biden's commitment to help these communities recover and thrive. The incoming Trump administration will oversee the implementation of these programs as part of the transition.
