19-Year-Old Arrested for Arson Over TikTok Ban
A 19-year-old man from Wisconsin has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a strip mall housing the office of Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.) in Fond du Lac, in response to a federal TikTok ban. The incident occurred early on January 19 and was quickly contained by local police and fire department, causing minor damage and no injuries. The suspect admitted to starting the fire out of anger over a temporary TikTok shutdown, which was caused by a bill Grothman supported that required ByteDance to divest its U.S. operations. He is facing arson charges and remains in custody at the Fond du Lac County Jail. Local authorities condemned the act of violence, stressing their commitment to community safety, and urged the public to provide any additional information. Despite the incident, Grothman refrained from further comments on the TikTok issue, labeling the arson a 'foolish' attempt to influence congressional decisions.
