ICE Launches Operation Midway Blitz Targeting Criminal Illegal Immigrants Chicago

The Department of Homeland Security has launched 'Operation Midway Blitz' in Chicago, an immigration enforcement effort targeting illegal immigrants with criminal records, particularly those believed to be protected by Illinois' sanctuary policies. The operation honors Katie Abraham, who was killed in a hit-and-run crash caused by an undocumented immigrant, Julio Cucul Bol, who was arrested with fake documents. DHS officials, including Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, criticized Governor J.B. Pritzker and other sanctuary advocates for allegedly allowing dangerous criminals to remain in Chicago, making the city a magnet for illegal immigrants involved in serious crimes. The Trump administration, emphasizing a tough stance on immigration and crime, is also considering deploying the National Guard to Chicago, which city and state officials have opposed. Although DHS claims the operation is underway, reports indicate only a few arrests have been made so far, with Chicago having approximately 150,000 illegal immigrants. This crackdown follows a recent Supreme Court ruling permitting continued aggressive immigration enforcement despite challenges citing racial profiling.
