Alan Kyerematen Proposes Reforms for Free SHS Program

Presidential aspirant Alan Kyerematen has proposed significant reforms to Ghana's Free Senior High School (SHS) programme, emphasizing its long-term sustainability and the need for structured pathways for graduates. During the Presidential Encounters 2024, he argued that while the Free SHS initiative is commendable, its current implementation lacks provisions for what happens after graduation, questioning, 'After Free SHS, what next?' Kyerematen's Great Transformational Plan (GTP) focuses on five areas: financial sustainability, infrastructure improvement, curriculum development, educator training, and post-graduation pathways. He highlighted the importance of identifying stable funding sources to sustain the programme and addressing significant infrastructure deficits in schools. Additionally, he stressed the need for a curriculum that prepares students for modern economic demands and equips them with market-relevant skills. Kyerematen's remarks come amidst discussions on the educational policy's future in the context of Ghana's electoral landscape.
