Ex-NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik Dies at 69
Bernard Kerik, former NYPD commissioner known for his leadership during the September 11 attacks, has died at 69 after a private battle with cardiac illness. An Army veteran, Kerik rose to national prominence alongside then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani and was highly decorated for bravery. His career later included a 2009 conviction on federal charges such as tax fraud and making false statements, for which he served nearly four years in prison before being pardoned by President Donald Trump in 2020. After his release, Kerik became a public commentator and took part in efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election results. Tributes from political and law enforcement leaders highlighted his heroic service and complicated legacy. Kerik is survived by his wife and three children.
