Turkish Airlines Plans Fleet Expansion with 225 Boeing Jets by 2034
Turkish Airlines has finalized a landmark agreement to acquire up to 225 Boeing aircraft, comprising 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 150 737 MAX jets, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2034. This deal, the airline's largest widebody and single-aisle order, aims to double its Boeing fleet and supports Turkish Airlines' vision to expand its fleet to 800 aircraft by 2033, transitioning fully to next-generation planes by 2035. The 787 Dreamliners will enhance Turkish Airlines' long-haul capabilities with improved fuel efficiency and increased passenger and cargo capacity on routes including the U.S., Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, while the 737 MAX will boost efficiency and flexibility on short- and medium-haul routes. The purchase is contingent upon finalizing engine supply and maintenance agreements with Rolls-Royce, GE Aerospace, and CFM International. Turkish Airlines currently operates more than 200 Boeing jets and aims to sustain an average annual growth rate of 6% through this fleet expansion, which also supports Turkey's aviation ecosystem and tourism sector. Boeing highlighted its long-standing partnership with Turkey, including significant local investments and job creation, reinforcing its role as a global aerospace hub.
