Lawyers for Fani Willis, the district attorney (DA) for Fulton County, Georgia, have filed a response to calls for her to be removed from the case against Donald Trump, arguing that any allegations of a relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade are irrelevant. However, they have acknowledged that a relationship existed, though they characterised it as both professional and friendly. In a separate development, it has emerged that Wade reached a temporary divorce settlement with his wife on Tuesday, which will prevent him from being subpoenaed to testify about the alleged affair in court. One of Trump's co-defendants, former Republican National Committee staffer Michael Roman, has alleged that Willis had an improper relationship with Wade, paid him more than $650,000 for his work, and then benefited financially from the relationship when Wade took her on cruises and trips.
