Trump Endorses NATO Action After Russian Airspace Incursions
NATO allies have accused Russia of repeated airspace violations in recent weeks — including three MiG‑31 fighters that briefly entered Estonian airspace and more than 20 drones that crossed into Poland — allegations Moscow denies, and NATO has condemned the incursions and pledged military and non‑military tools to deter threats. Estonia summoned a senior Russian diplomat and invoked Article 4 consultations while NATO reinforced its Eastern Sentry air posture and allies, including the UK, deployed additional aircraft such as RAF Typhoons; Poland’s leaders have warned they would shoot down any future aircraft or missiles violating their territory. On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, President Donald Trump said Ukraine can regain all territory lost since Russia’s 2022 invasion, called Russia a “paper tiger,” and — after meetings with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Emmanuel Macron — answered “yes” when asked whether NATO should shoot down Russian planes that intrude on alliance airspace. Mr. Trump’s remarks drew skepticism from Russian diplomats and prompted warnings from British politicians that the UK and NATO stand ready to act. Ukraine’s General Staff reported intense fighting on Sept. 23, with thousands of strikes, drone attacks and artillery shellings and multiple repelled Russian assaults, underscoring heavy frontline combat alongside heightened diplomatic tensions.
