The U.S. Senate has voted for the second time this year against the Right to IVF Act, which aimed to establish a nationwide right to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and mandate insurance coverage for the procedure. The bill, introduced by Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth, faced opposition primarily from Republicans, who cited concerns over religious liberty and state autonomy. Only two Republican senators, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, voted with the Democrats. Former President Donald Trump’s recent endorsement of universal IVF coverage did little to sway the Senate vote. Meanwhile, Senators Katie Britt and Ted Cruz have proposed alternative legislation to protect IVF access without imposing federal mandates. Democrats argue that the rejection underscores a broader Republican attack on reproductive rights, especially following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
