Western NC Secures $1.65B for Hurricane Recovery

Western North Carolina is set to receive $1.65 billion in federal funding to aid recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. This includes $1.4 billion for the state and an additional $225 million specifically for Asheville, as announced by Acting HUD Secretary Adrianne Todman and North Carolina Governor Josh Stein. The funds, sourced from Community Development Block Grants, aim to rebuild homes, develop affordable housing, and repair critical infrastructure. Governor Stein, who has issued executive orders to expedite recovery, emphasized the importance of getting the funds quickly to those still displaced, with over 12,000 residents affected. The relief efforts will also focus on supporting small businesses and repairing roads and bridges, which is crucial in helping the region recover and prepare for future challenges.
