Co-Director Released After Detention Linked to Film
Hamdan Ballal, co-director of the Oscar-winning documentary 'No Other Land', was allegedly beaten by Israeli settlers and subsequently detained by Israeli forces in the West Bank village of Susya. Witnesses reported that settlers attacked Ballal, throwing stones and damaging property, before Israeli soldiers took him into custody. The Israeli military claimed that rocks were thrown at Israeli citizens, leading to confrontations and subsequent arrests of Ballal and others. Ballal sustained injuries and was reportedly held overnight, but was later released. The incident has drawn significant attention, with some suspecting retaliation due to the film's critical portrayal of Israeli actions in the region. Eyewitnesses, including international activists, have corroborated claims of aggression by settlers and the military's intervention.
