Israel Hostage Families Welcome US Plans to End Gaza War
US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have jointly announced a historic peace plan intended to end the war in Gaza, which has been welcomed by opposition lawmakers, hostage families, and some political allies. The plan requires Hamas to release all 48 remaining hostages within 72 hours and entails a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, with the territory to be governed by a transitional administration of Palestinian technocrats, demilitarized, and with Hamas members allowed safe passage abroad if they choose. While some of Netanyahu’s coalition partners, particularly far-right members, remain skeptical or outright opposed to the deal, opposition leaders and hostage families have expressed strong support, urging maximum international pressure on Hamas to comply. Hostage families, having endured nearly two years of anguish, praised Trump for his determination and called for the safe return of all hostages, living or deceased, before true healing can begin. Public demonstrations in Israel have also urged Trump to ensure Netanyahu adheres to the deal, with the main hostage families’ forum accusing Netanyahu of previously sabotaging ceasefire efforts. The plan carries broad regional backing, with Arab countries expected to pressure Hamas towards acceptance, signaling a potential turning point in the protracted conflict.
