The visit aligns with President Donald Trump's immigration policies, which have seen a significant reduction in illegal crossings and increased deportations, including nearly 200 Venezuelans returned from Guantanamo Bay. Hegseth's agenda includes reviewing the Migrant Operations Center and the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility, both critical in the temporary holding of undocumented migrants pending their deportation. The Trump administration has halted the expansion of tent structures at the base due to inadequate facilities, but illegal aliens continue to be housed at the Migrant Operations Center.
