US-Mexico Border Security Pact and Tensions

The United States and Mexico have signed a joint statement to enhance border security through coordinated military patrols and increased information sharing. The initiative aims to bolster security along the shared border while respecting each nation's sovereignty. This cooperation follows Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum's commitment to deploy 10,000 troops to the border, which influenced former President Trump's decision to delay imposing tariffs on Mexican imports. Enhanced border security measures have already resulted in a significant decrease in illegal crossings and apprehensions since Trump's administration took over. Additionally, there have been tensions with Mexican cartels, including a recent incident involving a U.S. Department of Homeland Security helicopter targeted by a laser from the Mexico side.
