New York, New Jersey Appoint New U.S. Attorneys

John Giordano has been appointed as the new U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey, officially sworn in on March 3, 2025. Giordano, who previously served in various roles including as deputy general counsel for Donald Trump's transition team, plans to focus on issues such as gang violence and human trafficking. Meanwhile, John Sarcone III has been appointed U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York, set to begin on March 17. Sarcone, who lacks traditional prosecutorial experience, has a background in public service and law, having previously served as regional administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration. His appointment follows the resignation of Carla Freedman, who held the position under President Biden. Sarcone's appointment has drawn scrutiny due to his lack of experience as a prosecutor compared to previous U.S. attorneys in the district.
