Japan Enhances Trilateral Security with US, Philippines

Japan, the Philippines, and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing trilateral cooperation in maritime security amidst China's growing maritime activities. Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi and Philippine counterpart Enrique Manalo met in Manila to discuss these efforts, emphasizing the importance of the trilateral framework with the US in maintaining regional stability. Additionally, a virtual meeting between leaders of the US, Japan, and the Philippines reinforced the importance of their partnership in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific. Separately, Japan has also been strengthening its security ties with South Korea, focusing on regional threats including North Korea's nuclear activities and China's maritime assertiveness.
