US Homeland Security Warns Iran-Linked Cyberterror Threats Nationwide
Following U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites authorized by President Donald Trump, U.S. authorities, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the FBI, have issued warnings about an elevated threat environment within the United States. The DHS bulletin highlights the potential for cyberattacks from pro-Iranian hacktivists and state-affiliated cyber actors, as well as the risk of violence from extremists and lone-wolf terrorists motivated by anti-Israel or anti-Semitic sentiments. Former FBI investigator Bill Daly emphasized concerns about sophisticated cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure such as power grids and water systems, and noted that open border policies may allow hostile actors easier access into the country. Law enforcement agencies are actively preparing for possible retaliatory attacks, with coordination calls planned to brief governors and other officials. The heightened alert reflects fears that Iran may attempt both cyber and physical attacks in response to recent U.S. military actions, raising the stakes for domestic security and public safety. U.S. cities have also been placed on high alert as officials brace for potential threats linked to the escalating conflict.
