President Joe Biden's son, Hunter, could cause a political headache for the President with his legal troubles and very public defence, particularly with the prospect of a rematched election against Donald Trump in 2024. While the White House continues to support Hunter, his opposition to his father's gun control policies could create a problem for the President's re-election campaign. Hunter Biden's defence team cited the Supreme Court's ruling on New York's law restricting firearm possession, going against his father's signature 1994 "assault weapons" ban. Biden's approval rating continues to cause concern, being rated at 43% in the latest Fox News national poll, and below 40% in several major polls. The president is already an elderly candidate for the 2024 election, and his mental health has been questioned by the public, with a George Washington University poll finding only 38% thought he was mentally sound enough to serve as president.
