Mike Tyson, Athletes Urge Trump to Reschedule Marijuana Nationwide

Boxing legend Mike Tyson, alongside other athletes like NBA star Kevin Durant and former NFL player Dez Bryant, is actively urging President Donald Trump to reschedule marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule III drug. Tyson criticizes marijuana's current classification alongside heroin as inappropriate and emphasizes its medicinal benefits, sharing his personal experience of cannabis giving him a new lease on life. The coalition sent a letter to Trump highlighting three main reform points: clemency for nonviolent marijuana offenses, rescheduling marijuana, and ending discriminatory banking practices that hinder cannabis businesses from accessing loans. Tyson also noted the economic potential of legal cannabis and the ongoing challenges faced by over 500,000 cannabis-related businesses unable to secure loans. While former President Joe Biden initiated the process to reschedule marijuana, the effort has stalled, and Tyson and his coalition are pushing for Trump to deliver on reform. Marijuana is currently legal medically and recreationally in many states, but the group advocates for nationwide legalization for adults over 21.
