Nellie Pou Nominated to Replace Bill Pascrell

State Senator Nellie Pou has been officially nominated by New Jersey Democrats to replace the late Rep. Bill Pascrell in the 9th Congressional District, following a special convention held on Thursday. This nomination, which came after three of her opponents withdrew from the race, positions Pou as the favorite against Republican Billy Prempeh in the upcoming election on November 5. Pou, if elected, would become the first Hispanic woman to represent New Jersey in Congress, following significant endorsements from key party figures, including Governor Phil Murphy. Pascrell, who passed away on August 21 at age 87, had served in Congress for 27 years, and his death prompted an expedited nomination process to ensure the district’s Democratic representation on the ballot. The 9th District is heavily Democratic, making Pou's election prospects strong. Her nomination was marked by unanimous support from 464 committee members at the convention.
