Pezeshkian Sworn in as Iran's President

Masoud Pezeshkian, a reformist, was sworn in as Iran's new president, succeeding Ebrahim Raisi who died in a helicopter crash in May. Pezeshkian won the runoff election against hardliner Saeed Jalili with over 54% of the vote. His victory has raised hopes for improved international relations and easing domestic restrictions. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by foreign dignitaries and regional allies, including leaders from Hamas and Hezbollah. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, endorsed Pezeshkian and will have final approval over key cabinet appointments. Pezeshkian faces challenges such as defusing nuclear tensions and mitigating the impact of U.S. sanctions on Iran's economy.
