Treasury Reveals 69 Jobs Eligible for No Tax on Tips Deduction
President Donald Trump's 'No Tax on Tips' provision, part of the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill, exempts up to $25,000 in tips from federal income tax for roughly 68 to 70 qualifying occupations across eight categories, including casino workers, concierges, valet attendants, and housekeeping cleaners. The Treasury Department has compiled and is set to publish the official list and proposed regulations in the Federal Register, with the policy applying to tips earned from 2025 through 2028. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized the program's intent to support hardworking Americans dependent on tips while preventing abuse of the system, and predicted a significant economic boost in 2026 linked to this and other tax provisions. While the tax break lowers federal income tax liability, workers will still owe payroll and any applicable state or local taxes, though Nevada workers benefit from having no state income tax. The policy's expiration in 2028 will require Congressional and presidential action to extend or modify the program. Labor groups like the Culinary Union plan to monitor implementation to ensure it benefits working-class taxpayers as promised.
