Polls Show Democrats Losing Edge on Economy
Recent polling from CNN and Reuters shows a sharp decline in public confidence in the Democratic Party, with only 16% of Americans considering Democratic leaders strong and just 19% saying the party gets things done. Republicans now lead Democrats by eight to twelve points on economic issues, erasing the Democrats' historic advantage among middle-class voters. Internally, only 39% of Democrats view their party as having strong leadership, while 59% consider it ineffective. Both parties face voter skepticism, but distrust toward Democrats is particularly high, with their approval ratings reaching record lows. Analysts attribute these struggles to Democrats' lack of a compelling agenda and reliance on defending the status quo. Meanwhile, a record number of Americans want more government action, yet most feel neither party represents their views.
