Gallup Poll Shows US Immigration Attitudes Improve Under Trump
Recent Gallup polling reveals that 79% of U.S. adults now view immigration as a positive aspect for the country, a significant increase from the previous year and a high in nearly 25 years. This shift includes a notable rise in support among Republicans, with about two-thirds now seeing immigrants as beneficial, up from 39% last year, and increased backing for pathways to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Despite President Donald Trump's push for the largest mass deportation program in history and stricter immigration policies, public opinion appears to be moving toward more favorable views of immigrants and immigration levels. However, a Pew Research Center poll indicates that while 79% of Republicans approve of Trump's immigration policies, 62% of the general public disapproves, including 81% of Democrats, highlighting a steep partisan divide. Specific policies such as suspending asylum applications and ending Temporary Protected Status receive majority disapproval. Overall, while Trump's administration advocates for tougher immigration enforcement, the broader U.S. public, including many Republicans, shows growing support for immigration and more moderate approaches like citizenship pathways.
