Russia Warns of Military Escalation in Ukraine

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has warned that Moscow may resort to 'even stronger military means' in its conflict with Ukraine if the US and its allies continue to exert pressure. In an exclusive CNN interview, Ryabkov described the current geopolitical risks as unprecedented, even surpassing those during the Cold War. He criticized the West, particularly the US, for underestimating Russia's resolve to defend its national interests. This warning comes as the Biden administration announced a $725 million security assistance package for Ukraine, part of a larger $7 billion aid effort before Biden leaves office. Ryabkov indicated that while immediate military escalation is not forthcoming, the trend towards it is evident, and he noted Russia's capability to use the nuclear-capable 'Oreshnik' missile.
