CBS Shakeup: John Dickerson to Leave
Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount and the appointment of Bari Weiss as CBS News editor-in-chief have triggered a major shake-up at the network, with reports of roughly 1,000 corporate job cuts and program changes. Reported program changes include the cancellation of CBS Saturday Morning and the departures of hosts Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson. Veteran anchor John Dickerson, 57, announced he will leave CBS at the end of 2025 after 16 years and will co-anchor the CBS Evening News through the holidays; observers have linked his exit to Weiss’s editorial changes and Paramount’s $16 million settlement with Donald Trump. Weiss is reportedly intent on retooling the Evening News and has been linked to pursuing anchors such as Anderson Cooper, Bret Baier, Tony Dokoupil, and Norah O’Donnell. The transition has drawn criticism from some journalists and commentators over a possible rightward editorial shift and threats to newsroom independence. Separately, local broadcaster Hanna Battah abruptly left Fox 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, which critics cite as part of broader personnel churn in U.S. broadcast news.
