House Committees Subpoena ActBlue CEO in Fraud Probe
Three House committees—the House Administration, Oversight, and Judiciary Committees—have issued a subpoena to ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s major fundraising platform, amid an ongoing investigation into allegations that the organization accepted fraudulent or illegal donations from domestic and possibly foreign sources. Initially cooperative, ActBlue ceased its voluntary document sharing in June, prompting lawmakers to resort to compulsory legal measures to obtain materials related to internal misconduct and whistleblower retaliation. Chairmen Bryan Steil, Jim Jordan, and James Comer emphasized that ActBlue provided no legitimate legal justification for halting cooperation and accused the platform of making unfounded allegations about the committees' motives. The investigation, which has been active since 2023, also scrutinizes whether ActBlue previously failed to require security measures such as CVV codes for credit card donations, a policy now implemented. Despite ActBlue’s assertion of stringent anti-fraud practices and donor security protections, the committees remain focused on uncovering potential abuses within the platform that could affect campaign finance integrity. This bipartisan congressional probe aims to inform possible legislative reforms regarding political donation oversight.
