Enrique Tarrio Arrested Near Capitol for Assault

Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio was arrested near the U.S. Capitol for allegedly assaulting a counterprotester by striking her arm and phone during a rally held by the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers celebrating their recent pardons. Capitol Police officers observed the incident as the woman placed her phone close to Tarrio's face. Tarrio's arrest follows his presidential pardon from a 22-year sentence for seditious conspiracy related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The rally aimed to challenge the narrative of their role in the January 6 attack and promote a new cryptocurrency. Tarrio and his group also announced plans to investigate the causes of the Jan. 6 riot and to file lawsuits contesting their prosecutions. He was charged with simple assault and taken away in a police van.
