The national average price for regular gas has slightly decreased to $3.17 per gallon, a drop of about 4 cents compared to last month, according to AAA data. Despite this decline, prices remain higher than they were a year ago, when the average was $3.274. Southern states are seeing the lowest prices, with Mississippi averaging $2.68 per gallon, while California experiences the highest at $4.85. Analysts warn that proposed tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports could significantly impact gas prices, particularly in the Northeast and Midwest regions. Patrick De Haan from GasBuddy noted that a prolonged trade war could lower global demand, potentially mitigating the effects of tariffs. The fluctuations in gas prices have been influenced by political decisions and international trade considerations over the past year.
