Palestinian Activist Shot Dead by Israeli Settler

Awdah (Odeh) Hathaleen, a Palestinian activist, teacher, and co-creator of the Oscar-winning documentary 'No Other Land,' was shot dead by Israeli settler Yinon Levi in front of the community center in Umm al-Khair, West Bank. Levi, previously sanctioned by the US, EU, and UK, was captured on video firing a handgun during the incident, which followed settler efforts to encroach on Palestinian land using a bulldozer. Israeli police have detained Levi for questioning but have not filed charges, while several Palestinians and two foreign tourists were also arrested. The killing has intensified outrage among activists and raised concerns over ongoing settler violence and impunity. Hathaleen's death highlights the continued struggle of Masafer Yatta residents against displacement. Since October 2023, over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank amid escalating violence.
