NVIDIA, OpenAI Sign $100B Letter of Intent
NVIDIA and OpenAI signed a letter of intent for a strategic partnership in which NVIDIA intends to invest up to $100 billion and supply chips as OpenAI builds and deploys at least 10 gigawatts of AI data‑center capacity. Funding and systems will be rolled out progressively as each gigawatt is deployed, with the first phase targeted to come online in the second half of 2026 using NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform. Under terms reported by both companies, OpenAI will pay cash for chips while NVIDIA may take non‑controlling equity stakes in deployed systems, and the firms will co‑optimize hardware and software roadmaps with NVIDIA designated as OpenAI’s preferred compute and networking partner. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said 10 GW would equal roughly 4–5 million GPUs and represents infrastructure that dwarfs existing data centers, raising concerns about huge power and facility demands. The announcement builds on existing alliances with Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank and others, follows NVIDIA’s recent big commitments elsewhere, and prompted a positive market reaction with analysts revising forecasts.
