Tesla Recalls Cybertrucks Amid Declining Sales
Tesla has issued a recall for over 46,000 Cybertrucks, nearly all units produced from November 13, 2023, to February 27, 2025, due to a defect in the cant rail, an exterior trim panel that can detach while driving, potentially creating a road hazard. This recall marks the eighth for the Cybertruck, which has faced multiple design and safety issues since its launch, such as problems with the accelerator pedal, windshield wipers, and tire pressure monitoring. Despite offering repairs at no cost and implementing fixes in new productions, the recall adds to Tesla's challenges, including declining sales and stock value, partially attributed to CEO Elon Musk's controversial public profile and the vehicle's high price point. The company has planned to notify owners starting May 19, 2025, and will replace the defective parts with a new adhesive and reinforcements free of charge. Tesla hopes to address demand constraints with upcoming model variations and discounted pricing to boost sales.
