Waymo Plans Autonomous Ride-Hailing Expansion To Dallas, Miami, Washington D.C. By 2026

Waymo, Alphabet’s self-driving taxi division, plans to launch fully autonomous ride-hailing services in Dallas by 2026, marking a significant expansion of its U.S. presence. This launch will be supported through a multi-year partnership with Avis Budget Group, which will handle fleet management, maintenance, and depot operations, allowing Waymo to focus on scaling its autonomous vehicle technology. Currently, Waymo operates about 1,500 vehicles providing over 250,000 weekly paid rides in cities including Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Austin, where rides are offered via Uber’s app. Dallas will be unique in that rides will be available through Waymo’s own app, with the city joining Miami and Washington, D.C. in Waymo’s planned 2026 expansions. Waymo’s continued growth highlights its lead in the autonomous ride-hailing market, as rivals like Tesla and Amazon-backed Zoox face regulatory challenges and slower rollouts.
